Nic Palmer – Birds on a Spectrum
Birds on a spectrum is an exhibition celebrating the strength and resilience of neurodivergent women from different backgrounds. Using humour and wit in her paintings Nic Palmer tackles heavy topics to generate conversation.
Animal and human subjects are depicted as an attempt to reclaim the colloquial animal names that have been given to women in a derogatory sense over time. For example, birds cows, dogs and chicks. Subsequently working these subjects into her paintings with strong figures of women in domestic and work life. Nic Palmer attempts to deconstruct the stereotypes and the harmful colloquial language that we accept and get use to.
